Anything in particular I ought to try and see in the downtown area? If the people running the con hadn’t put us out in the mall belt, I’d probably have ended up doing what I did last year at WFC in Madison (or the WFC in D.C.) and spent some time wandering around, but needing to trek 8 miles into the city first makes that less workable.
If you can, go down to Town Lake at dusk to watch the bats come out. (I’m sure at WFC you can find a couple other people interested in doing this as well. 😉
Otherwise, there’s not really anything *specific* to see downtown. There’s the BBQ to eat, of course. Otherwise it’s just the spectacle of 6th Street at night, with literally every door opening to a different music venue and throngs of people (not just drunken UT students) going up and down the street from one to the next. It’s an amusing stroll to take if you can get down there.
