{"id":128,"date":"2006-02-21T19:51:00","date_gmt":"2006-02-22T01:51:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/of2minds.org\/michael\/?p=128"},"modified":"2006-02-21T19:51:00","modified_gmt":"2006-02-22T01:51:00","slug":"boskone-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/of2minds.org\/michael\/2006\/02\/21\/boskone-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Boskone report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Better late than never&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>The good:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Panels like <b>Short SF<\/b> (with James Patrick Kelley and others) and <b>Intellectual Property<\/b> (with Cory Doctorow, Patrick Nielsen Hayden and Beth Meacham)<\/li>\n<li>Cory and John Scalzi and others (Scalzi&#8217;s got a list <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scalzi.com\/whatever\/004034.html\">here<\/a>) hanging out and talking in the dealer&#8217;s room<\/li>\n<li>A Tor party where there was actually room to breathe and move around, and where I ended up in a corner conversation circle that at various times included <a href=\"http:\/\/matociquala.livejournal.com\/\" class=\"lj-user\">matociquala<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/truepenny.livejournal.com\/\" class=\"lj-user\">truepenny<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/arcaedia.livejournal.com\/\" class=\"lj-user\">arcaedia<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/autopope.livejournal.com\/\" class=\"lj-user\">autopope<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/kenmacleod.blogspot.com\/\">Ken MacLeod<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/pnh.livejournal.com\/\" class=\"lj-user\">pnh<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_M._Ford\">John M. Ford<\/a>, and others<\/li>\n<li>Excellent food at Cafe Jaffa and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tapeo.com\/\">Tapeo<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Seeing the friends and acquaintances that I pretty much only get to see at cons<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The bad:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Most of the other panels I attended<\/li>\n<li>A subpar dealer&#8217;s room that resulted in me buying just <u>one<\/u> book, despite going in with a list of things I wanted.  I still can&#8217;t believe that there were no copies of <a href=\"http:\/\/wicked_wish.livejournal.com\/\" class=\"lj-user\">wicked_wish<\/a>&#8216;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0765313081\/\">Four and Twenty Blackbirds<\/a> to be found<\/li>\n<li>Hotel guests who think it&#8217;s a good idea to lock their small yippy dog in the room and then head out for the evening<\/li>\n<li>A shorter single malt list at the hotel bar, and their then being out of Lagavulin on top of that<\/li>\n<li>A Boskone with no <a href=\"http:\/\/suricattus.livejournal.com\/\" class=\"lj-user\">suricattus<\/a>.  That&#8217;s just wrong.\n<\/ul>\n<p>The rest:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Next year&#8217;s Boskone is going to be in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.starwoodhotels.com\/westin\/search\/hotel_detail.html?propertyID=1528\">a hotel that&#8217;s not even open yet<\/a>, and isn&#8217;t in the Back Bay area of the city or conveniently attached to a large mall.  That, combined with a list of guests that&#8217;s not yet looking very impressive (especially compared to this year), may mean I&#8217;m passing on Boskone next year.<\/li>\n<li>It may have been cold, but the lack of blizzards was a definite plus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Better late than never&#8230;.
